It was such a pleasure to have Vassilis Christopoulos here in Konstanz. He is a great conductor and will definitely be missed. For his farewell concert on June, 21, Vassilis chose two pieces that one would never even dream to hear in combination: Beethoven’s Symphony Nr.6 F-major op.68 “Pastorale” and Berlioz’s Symphony Fantastique op.14. The first piece is all about country life – cheerful mood on arrival in the countryside, scenes from a brook, thunder and storm, singing shepherds – pure nature. The second piece, on the other hand, is based on the autobiography of Hector Berlioz and reflects his love affair with the actress Harriet Smithson. At least, the first three scenes. The last two scenes describe his dreams under the influence of opium: his own execution and a witches’ Sabbath featuring his lover. Quite an impressive mixture, isn’t it?

My June
I know, it’s not over yet. Though I’ve got quite a lot to tell you and I’m afraid I won’t if don’t do it right away.
#1 The most important one
I did it! I submitted my doctoral thesis! It took me almost 5 years to run those 11 EEG experiments, to write them up, and in the meantime to have a child. This thesis is thus a summary of my recent professional life. It’s a milestone and the end of an era. I am excited and, at the same time, scared like hell to move on.
This thesis was possible only because two wonderful people decided to put their trust in me. Dear Carsten Eulitz and Aditi Lahiri, you are the BEST scientific supervisors and mentors one could wish for! I am grateful for your time and advice. It’s been an honor to work with you! And we still have three papers to publish together 🙂
YSL Full Metal Shadow #06 and Lancome Shine Lover #136
Summer is inevitable. Right? I am not giving up hope! Trying to enchant it, I resort to color abundance in my make up and clothes. The clothing-enchantment part was already featured here and here. Today I follow my previous summer-like beauty post with a new line of eyeshadows by YSL and another Shine Lover by Lancome.
YSL Full Metal Shadow #06 – Pink Cascade is a beige shade with pink shimmer. Although this line of eyeshadows was described as metallic, the one presented here can only demonstrate some frosty shimmer. I have to admit that this “failed promise” turned out to be quite a merit of this line: they are wearable on every occasion.

Black and White. Part II
When I don’t feel like brooding over the combinability of my tops and bottom I usually reach for a dress. Or something black-and-white. Whatever the pattern, as long as it’s black-and-white, it’s always a go. I’d put on coloful shoes and scarves and I am good to go.
This spring I extended my black-and-white wardrobe, having sewn several skirts and tops. Today’s post features two patterned skirts and a long-sleeve T-shirt.
#1.
This skirt is very simple. I didn’t even line it as I meant to wear it in summer on an everyday basis. Taking into account the composition of the fabric (cotton-elastane blend) and the cut, it’s also not very likely to ride up. Moreover, I’ve already got several slips, so I decided to go for a linen-free skirt.
#Two in One. A Top and a Dress
No-no, it’s not a converter! These are two entirely separate pieces!
A year ago a bought a piece of D&G fabric. It was a viscose(haha)-elastane blend that caught my eye with its Acropolis pattern. I decided to buy it for a tunic or a top. The fabric consisted of rapports of about one meter in the length, each of which was also subdivided into two patterns of 70 cm in the width.
I sewed a really nice top that is never going to retire. EVER. I love it! It’s really wearable and can be dressed up and down according to different occasions.

One Dress, Three Looks
Some people hate neon colors and in many cases they are right. When I first sewed this dress, my brother-in-law told me: “Change into something neutral, please, you make my eýes hurt.”
Impolite as it was, it was also to some extent reasonalbe: people should respect other people. Thus, I had to consider some outfits that could be wearable without the assistance of seeing aid .
I was not really worried about my co-workers, as the lab environment presupposes not the best mood. My colorful dress was thus a happy change and a “shot of sun”. Besides, scientists are pretty strange people (I guess, everybody is familiar with the Big Bang Theory). So, I was only worried about the rare casual occasions without the lab. Now, let’s have a look at the looks (:)) and decide whether they have a right for existence.

Irregular Polka Dots
I love regularity in everything (which is probably why I love calculating stats 🙂 ). As soon as something gets irregular, it drives me crazy and throws me off. I guess, it’s obvious why I didn’t instantly fall in love with this Prada fabric.
Outfit for a Classical Music Night
Last Friday we went to a philharmonic concert. I promise to review that later but today I will tell you about my outfit for the concert.
It is important to assess the audience beforehand as you don’t want to find yourselves completely overdressed in a crowd of pretty casual people. This is exactly what awaits you here. Nevertheless, you still want to have that flare of going out. A cocktail dress being out of question, I decided to go for some fresh colors and pulled my favorite pair of Joop! pants out of the closet. What followed felt like a brainstorm.
#Two in one. Collistar: Transparency multi blusher
Sometimes I come across things that are too good and handy to be used in only one way. I mean, if I love a sewing pattern for a blouse I usually adapt it to a dress. If I love a color of a blush I can use it as an eyeshadow, etc. After having a look at my wardrobe and my makeup stash, I decided to start a new rubric “#Two in one”.
We shall start with a new blush by Collistar from their Summer 2015 collection. This brand appeared in Karstadt a couple of years ago but, being a loyal Dior and YSL customer, I somehow never paid attention to Collistar. Several weeks ago I was desperately looking for a substitute for my favorite peachy eyeshadow by Clinique that I bought 6 years ago and that was nowhere to be found any longer. My desperation led me to the not so new stand by Collistar where I saw this interesting thingy:
